Open Day 20th September - come visit us!

QuadBrasenosechalkhelpers2024The next undergraduate Open Days at Brasenose College and the University of Oxford is taking place on Friday 20th September. We will be open from 9am to 5pm, and prospective students are welcome! There is no need to book - if you are interested in applying to Oxford as an undergraduate, then come along and say hello!

During the Open Days, we will have an army of student helpers who will be ready to give you a tour of the college, and chat about all things Oxford and Brasenose - be that college life, study, admissions, or anything you are curious about. Other events include a talk from the College’s senior Tutor, Dr Simon Smith, on Life at Brasenose and Admissions at 11am, and the always popular 'Meet the Tutors' sessions where, in the afternoon, our subject tutors will be about at various times to talk to prospective applicants about anything subject related, either as structured talks or drop-in Q&As. Please see www.bnc.ox.ac.uk/opendays for a timetable and keep up to date with us on twitter @BrasenoseNews in the build up and on the day. Feel free to look at the Brasenose  prospectuses too.

Dr Joe Organ, who helps organise the Open Day, commented: “Over the years so many of our visitors liked the College enough to apply and end up being Brasenose undergraduates – and have often helped out during subsequent Open Days. It’s amazing to hear and feel our ambassadors’ enthusiasm for the College as they welcome guests. If you are visiting Oxford for the Open Days we’d love the opportunity to show you why we love Brasenose so much – it could be destiny!”

The Brasenose Open Days coincide with the wider University Open Days, where colleges, departments, libraries, museums and other parts of the University are open and running activities.

At Brasenose, we pride ourselves on having a diverse community of students, where we welcome the best and brightest from all backgrounds, across the UK and the world. For the fourth year in a row, over 75% of our UK offer holders are from state schools. This year, UK offer holders hail from Cornwall, Portsmouth, Bristol, Swansea, Birmingham, Cambridge, Leicester, Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester, London, Durham, and the Yorkshire Dales – as well as some crossing seas to come to us from the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland.

Despite having a history that traces all the way back to the 1200s, Brasenose is a progressive and modern college. Brasenose was among the first of the Oxford colleges to become mixed gender (we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of admitting women this year), and the student council (the JCR) has representatives for Women*, welfare, charities, and Diversities & Equality. Everyone is welcome at Brasenose, regardless of gender, school type, religion, identity, or background.

Each year, we run events to celebrate the diverse range of brilliant individuals that make up the college. Examples include LGBTQ+ events, Ethnic Minority Dinners, a Chinese New Year dinner, a Burns Night dinner, a Ceilidh dance and Holi. Of course, there are lots of events put on by the students just for fun as well, such as music festivals, film nights, pub quizzes, Halloween parties, garden parties, music recitals a massive selection of sports, and one of the university’s biggest arts weeks.

We hope to see you at the Open Day!
