Student Blog: Egg-hunt!

They say that by the time you go to university, you’re supposed to be an adult, but at Brasenose, every so often, we like to let out our childhood spirit again. And there’s no better way to do that than through a large-scale Easter Egg Hunt.

Organised with the help of the Brasenose Coll-egg Committee (unfortunately, the puns don’t get any better) the students hatched a plan to scatter a whole variety of eggs around college, from small Lindor eggs, to larger Cadbury eggs which each had a clue attached. Combine this with an eggciting grand prize of a huge Thorntons Easter Egg for the Brasenose Easter Egg Hunt Champions 2018, and you have an egg-shellent event.

At 1pm on Sunday 22^nd April, a whole three weeks after Easter had actually occurred, a huge range of Brasenose students converged on college, blowing off the need for lunch or exam revision, instead cracking on with a frenzied search for Easter Eggs. Gardens were scoured, towers ascended and basements explored as people engaged in serious egg-cercise around college to be the first to gather all 21 clues and win the grand prize, whilst picking up smaller eggs along the way. In an intense finish with only 10 seconds between first and second place, the victorious team of Bethy Reeves, Hugo Astley and Sarah Beaman (pictured) were crowned champions, with commendable efforts from Vishal Kumar, Angharad Morgan and Laura Bailey, who narrowly came second. Overall, it was a very enjoyable event, with winner Bethy commenting “winning this competition was no yolk. No one was going to poach our prize and we’re delighted to have a prize so egg-squisite.” Dreadful egg puns aside, the event was extremely enjoyable, both for organisers and participants, and hopefully this will become a tradition for many years to come.
