Unfortunately, due to our first term term running from early October to early December, the Brasenose community aren’t together to celebrate Christmas! As relaxing as it is to be back at home with family for Christmas itself, we like to get into the festive spirit a little early, and so we have OXMAS. Oxmas occurs every year on the 25th of November, exactly one month before Christmas day. On Oxmas Day everyone wears their brightest and most decorative Christmas jumpers (see PPE student Cat in the photo). This happens right across the university involving both undergrads and postgrads alike.
On Oxmas Eve, the Brasenose chapel holds an (optional of course) ‘Nearly-midnight Mass’ at around 10pm. The service contains plenty of Christmas themed hymns.
However, Oxmas is not the only opportunity Brasenose students have to get into the Christmas spirit. We have two Christmas dinners in our Dining Hall in the final week of term! Complete with crackers, party hats and Christmas pudding (there are two in case people have to miss one). The chapel also puts on a carol service, that members of the public, as well as Brasenose students, can attend.
Finally, we have a fancy Christmas party on the Wednesday of the final week of term. This begins with a champagne reception in hall, followed by moving on to a larger venue with live music.
