Peter Twinn studied Mathematics at Brasenose in the 1930s and is best known as the first British Cryptographer to decipher a message encoded by a German Enigma Coding Machine. He did this as the first professional Mathematician employed by the Government Code and Cipher School at Bletchley Park, where he worked alongside Alan Turing.
He later worked as Director of Hovercraft in the Ministry for Technology and gained an interest in entomology, being awarded a doctorate in the jumping mechanism of click beetles.
